Michelle Obama Is Proud of Her Children For Their Temper and Diplomacy!

In an interview with Conan O'Brien for a new episode of his podcast, the former First Lady expressed her deep admiration and appreciation for Malia, 20 and Sasha, 17 and the way they handled some tough times being under public glare
By now we all know that the Obamas are a very warm family who more than anything, value family goals. Former President Barack Obama cannot stop talking about how wonderful his wife and his daughters are. Michelle Obama, on the other hand, has expressed her affection on more than one times for the former President of the United States and their daughters on social media and during interviews. In an interview with Conan O'Brien for a new episode of his Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, the former First Lady expressed her deep admiration and appreciation for Malia, 20 and Sasha, 17. She told O'Brien that she was incredibly proud of her daughters turning into poised, graceful, and resilient young women especially when their childhood had not been the most normal one. The former first lady said, "'I am in awe of my children for the way they have managed this whole thing with poise and grace. There's a resilience that they've had to develop." Michelle pointed out that it had was not easy for her daughters to be constantly under the public glare. She also revealed her daughters found she and Barack Obama 'hugely embarrassing'." She said, "Imagine showing up to parent-teacher conferences with a 20-car motorcade and police officers yelling at the teachers, 'Move out of the way!' ..they've also had to sacrifice a lot of their childhoods."

She further told O'Brien, "Living in this glare and being the subject of some of this nastiness themselves and learning from a very young age how to recover from that, how to steal yourself." Michelle remembered a time when Malia was much younger and on a field trip with her class at a museum. While they were there, she was recognized by another class of fifth graders who began taking pictures of her. However, instead of getting angry, she was gracious.

"And she had to take it upon herself because no teachers were stopping this, no grown-ups. She gathered them around, and said, 'Now, I'm very excited to see all of you, but I'm here with my school so I can't take pictures with all of you'. That's how my kids have had to operate. Strangers approaching them. And being angry if they don't want to take pictures. Imagine trying to have your first kiss or sneak a cigarette and you're on page six. They've had to learn how to steel themselves and then come out not being resentful, not being cynical, and still being curious about the world," said Michelle.

Malia has been in the news more than one time - when she smoked at a concert and socialized at a party where there was beer, others snapped her photo and shared it online. When she started dating fellow Harvard student Rory Farquharson, the public couldn't get enough. Michelle said, "My hat's off to them. Since they couldn't completely avoid the strangeness attached to Obama's job, Michelle said that she and Barack had to make things as normal as they could for their girls."

She added, "We had to parent by creating this cocoon of normalcy in a pretty crazy, abnormal world." She and Obama had to be the calming force in the midst of all the madness. She said, "We spent eight years just going, It’s okay. You’ll be fine. This is normal. Just go to school." The 55-year-old explained how they kept it all together and said, "It was very much keeping them in their reality, making sure we went to parent-teacher conferences and we went to their games and we were sitting on the sidelines with them and that they had sleepovers."

She added, "And we had kids sleeping over at our house... our house being the White House. My kids were like every other kid — like, 'Why would people want to come here, mom?' she recalled them saying. It's the White House, I guarantee you they want to come and watch a movie.'" At a Becoming book tour event in St. Paul, Minnesota last week, Michelle also spoke about the last sleepover they had at the White House before they moved out.

An emotional moment, she said the final slumber party was "chaos" and added, "The staff was crying, my girls were crying and all I kept thinking was, I can't be crying right now, people will think I'm crying for different reasons. So, I had to fix my face, but then I was "Like Bye Felicia!"Praising her two girls for their resilience at the same event, Michelle, said, "My girls have taught me resilience. I'm in awe of how normal they turned out.' Malia, now a sophomore at Harvard University, was just ten when she moved into the White House. Sasha, now a senior in high school, was seven. Michelle has been singing their praises for years but has really focused on her pride in her children since she started promoting her book.
