A Japanese study which involved 21 participants who experienced panic and hyperventilation episodes, compared them to 20 other subjects who did not suffer from such issues and found these events happen due to the deficiency in both, vitamin B6 and iron.

Researchers found that participants that experienced nervousness and hyperventilation issues had low levels of iron and vitamin B6, while the others had them in sufficient amounts in the body.

The results show that low serum concentrations of vitamin B6 and iron are related to PA (panic attacks) and HVA (hyperventilation). Scientists need to conduct more studies to learn more about the mechanisms involved in these differences.

The human body synthesizes serotonin through the precursor tryptophan. In the serotonin synthesis of the human brain, vitamin B6 acts like a coenzyme for tryptophan hydroxylase, which has a role int he conversion of tryptophan into 5-hydroxytryptophan, and iron is actually a cofactor for aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase involved in the release of serotonin from 5-hydroxytryptophan.

B6 (Pyridoxine): Chicken, turkey, tuna, shrimp, beef liver, cheese, beans, spinach, carrots, brown rice, and sunflower seeds

B9 (Folic Acid): Spinach and other green, leafy veggies, asparagus, turnips, beets, Brussels sprouts, avocados, beans, beef liver, salmon, and orange juice.

On the other hand, in order to optimize your iron levels, you should increase the intake of beans and lentils, tofu, cashews, whole-grain and enriched breads, fortified cereals, dark green leafy veggies, and baked potatoes.
