They Had Been Married For 62 Years And Died Just 1.5 Hours Apart Holding Each Other By The Hand

Tom, 84, and Delma Ledbetter, 82, from Florida met when they were in the 20s and were married three weeks after their first date. They are survived by their two daughters, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
In today's day and age, divorces and broken families are more the norm than the exception. It's seldom that we see couples going the distance and sticking together no matter what curveballs life throws them. One such couple from Florida proved that they were meant to be together in sickness and in health. 84-year-old Tom and 82-year-old Delma married when they were in their 20s, lived together and loved each other for 62 years and finally left the world together holding each other's hand. This couple was clearly predestined to be together.

After living a happy and rather adventurous life, and giving birth to two daughters who are married themselves, Tom and Delma breathed their last in a bed side by side each other, and hand in hand on April 21, 2017. While Tom passed away first, Delma passed away an hour and a half later reports The Epoch Times.

The two were admitted to the nursing home at around the same time. Delma was admitted first, followed by Tom a few days later in April 2017. "It was exactly how they wanted to go. It couldn’t have been any better," said their daughter Donetta Nichols. A very touching photo of Delma and Tom holding hands before they passed away was shared by family members — a bittersweet moment that will be remembered forever. Tom and Delma met each other through mutual friends while living in Florida. They realized as soon as they saw each other that they were in it for the long haul.

However, their first date was not very memorable. Tom drove his car with Delma without knowing exactly where he was going. Nicolas said, "They drove around two, three different blocks or whatever and they came back and they parked. He said he reached over and he grabbed her hand and he said, 'I don’t know what made me do it.' He said, 'I just reached over and gave her a kiss on the cheek.'" Only 3 weeks after this interaction, the two decided to get married.

Tom and Delma were survived by their two daughters, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. As a couple, they would do everything together, and in their twilight years traveled across the country visiting one campsite after another. In April 2017, Delma became very ill, followed by Tom. Together, they were hospitalized. Nichols said, "They couldn’t get a pulse. They couldn’t get a blood pressure. They couldn’t get anything. Yet mama was just hanging on to something,"

She continued, "We got him over to the nursing home with Mama. They had pushed their little beds together and Mama was laying right there, facing him. She was asleep and Daddy goes and he reached over there and he grabbed a hold of her hand and he just laid there with her, and it was so sweet." They didn't let go of each other even when in their final moments. This is a love story for the ages, that's for sure.
