Following The Obamas, Hillary Clinton Decides To Venture Into Hollywood With Movie Production Company

Hillary and Chelsea Clinton are keen to focus on women-centric stories told by women and are exploring studio deals
After Barack and Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton appears to have turned her attention from politics to Hollywood. Former Senator, U.S. Secretary of State and First Lady is planning to start a production company along with her daughter Chelsea Clinton. The duo’s production company will look to produce content for both film and television, according to Bloomberg.

While the discussions for the same are at an early stage, Bloomberg says Hillary and Chelsea Clinton have already spoken to studios about releasing their projects. A top-tier executive told Deadline that there have been discussions with top studios, “Hillary is still very popular out here and there have been conversations with several studios and streamers about working on projects together.” Hillary Clinton has also made plenty of cameo appearances in Saturday Night Live skits over the years.

Hillary Clinton had two unsuccessful attempts in the Presidential elections, first losing to Barack Obama in the Democratic primary in 2008 and then to Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote but still lost out to Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential race, is currently out of politics and is looking to find new avenues to influence culture and society. Since losing the Presidential race, Hillary Clinton released a memoir and recently went on a speaking tour with her husband, Bill.

Clintons are following the path of the Obamas who have sealed deals with Netflix for a string of productions. Only last month it was announced that Obama’s production company was working on a non-fiction series based on a Michael Lewis book, The Fifth Risk: Undoing Democracy, that will be released by Netflix. Obamas’ production company 'Higher Ground Productions' announced a slew of projects in collaboration with Netflix and confirmed their focus would be political issues concerning the United States.

“We created Higher Ground to harness the power of storytelling. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited about these projects,” said Barack Obama. “Touching on issues of race and class, democracy and civil rights, and much more, we believe each of these productions won’t just entertain but will educate, connect, and inspire us all.”

Michelle Obama is also upbeat about the project, “We love this slate because it spans so many different interests and experiences, yet it’s all woven together with stories that are relevant to our daily lives,” Mrs. Obama said. “We think there’s something here for everyone—moms and dads, curious kids, and anyone simply looking for an engaging, uplifting watch at the end of a busy day.”

Hillary and Chelsea are keen to work on stories by and about women. Hillary Clinton is already collaborating with Steven Spielberg to produce Woman’s hour, an adaptation of the book that tells the story of activists who fought to help women earn the right to vote. Hillary Clinton does have a lot of influential followers in the form of CEOs and film executives she met while going on the Hollywood fundraising circuit. Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and director J.J. Abrams were prominent Hollywood personalities who donated to her campaign.

Politicians have always maintained good contacts within the Hollywood industry to raise money but the decisions by the Obamas and Hillary Clinton to venture into production looks to have started a new trend of influencing the society through the power of cinema.
