Deaf Kid Hears Mom's Voice For The First Time Ever. Mother Says: "It Is The Best Gift"!

Just prior to surgery, Baby McKenna called Annie "Mama" for the first time. Annie said that it was the best Mother's Day gift she could have asked for.
It was for the first time in her life that McKenna Grace Langley heard her mother’s voice, and the precious video of the 16-month-old deaf baby turning to her mom, Annie, and breaking into a smile will melt your heart. The video was captured by McKenna's dad at Cincinnati’s Children Hospital where McKenna Grace Langley was fitted with hearing aids after undergoing surgery this week, reports WCMH.

The 16-month-old baby’s mother was overcome with emotion the moment her daughter turned towards her. The baby responded to every sentence and mumbled loudly when her mother said, "I love you". McKenna also listened to her father's voice and responded positively.

In the video captured, Annie Langley broke into tears and apologized for being overcome with emotion. She said, "It was an indescribable feeling... just the sense of unconditional love that I felt in that moment. The look of pure joy, and you could see the wonder on her face like the wheels were turning, she’s hearing all these new sounds," said Annie.

McKenna underwent surgery close to Mother’s Day and called Annie "Mama", for the first time, just before surgery leaving the Ohio mom in tears. "She said mama yesterday before surgery, and it kind of broke my heart... I mean not broke my heart, but I had never heard her say it before and it was heartbreaking. I was like oh my gosh this is the first step to a whole new journey." Annie considers it the best Mother’s Day gift she could have received.

The video makes you appreciate how much everyone takes sound for granted. Even the most basic things as hearing a bird chirp. Annie said, "Hearing birds chirping for the first time was probably pretty incredible for her. Today, here it’s a little windy and the rain was coming down when we were walking back from the hospital, and she was just so interested in looking around at what was going on."

McKenna was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and also has CHARGE syndrome which her mother said is a "rare condition". "Each letter of CHARGE means something different that is a characteristic for it. Heart defects and being deaf are two pretty common characteristics of CHARGE." In addition, McKenna was also born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome, a congenital heart defect in which the right atrium and right ventricle are underdeveloped. This defect causes inadequate blood flow to the lungs.

With so many complications, hospital visits are a regular affair for McKenna and her family. Her mother explained, "Over the past 16 months, we have spent over 7 and a half months in the hospital. When she was first born, it was 3 and a half months, then, when she went back for an emergency brain surgery, it was another 3 and a half months. Then, just here and there... weeks, days, or evenings. It’s been a long time but now she’s thriving."

Life is hard for the Langleys who live in Lewis Center, Ohio, but Annie Langley considered herself blessed by the birth of her daughter. "I can’t be more proud or honored to be her mom. I’m truly blessed, and I will continue saying that, and I will continue telling people that until the day I die. She is amazing, and I am honored to be her mom."
